FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 29, 2026
Los Angeles, CA – Black Women for Wellness (BWW) is continuing its commitment to advancing Black maternal health with a bold, community-centered billboard campaign now live across Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Stockton. Building on the momentum of Black Maternal Health Week April 11-17, 2026; these highly visible installations serve as a powerful public call to recognize, protect, and uplift Black mothers and birthing people.
Black Women for Wellness’ Black Maternal Health Week 2026 programming featured four successful community events. From the impactful Black Mamas Birthing Tour, which connected mothers with trusted care providers and vital resources, to the deeply affirming Dear Mama letter-writing gathering that created space for women and children to write letters to their mothers, each event fostered meaningful connection and empowerment. The 4th Annual San Joaquin County Black Maternal Health Symposium brought together partners, experts, and community members for deep discussion and knowledge-sharing, while Rooted in the Womb offered a joyful, restorative movement for pelvic floor health that centered on healing and embodiment. Collectively, these events reflected the power of community-driven solutions and reinforced a shared commitment to advancing Black maternal and infant health.
Participants of the birthing tour visited Kindred Space LA, Kaiser Permanente South Bay, Long Beach Memorial, Baby’s First Pic, MLK Community Hospital, and the CDU Black Maternal Health Center of Excellence Maternity Home.
Throughout the week’s events, participants spoke openly about the emotional and physical weight of pregnancy and childbirth. One participant captured this reality powerfully: “You’re the closest to death, when you’re giving birth. Am I a priority, am I just a number? Am I actually treated as a human being? Those are some of the considerations that I think about as a Black woman.”
Placed throughout key neighborhoods, the billboards invite residents, commuters, and visitors alike to engage directly with messages that center dignity, humanity, and the urgent need for systemic change in maternal healthcare. Community members are encouraged to visit the sites, and experience the campaign firsthand to spark dialogue, reflection, and collective responsibility. BWW encourages the community to take a photo or video of your visit and tag us on your socials.

“This campaign is about visibility and truth,” said Gabrielle Brown, BWW’s Black Maternal and Infant Health Program Manager.
“Our work is rooted in love, empowerment, and advocacy. Black Maternal Health Week 2026 was a powerful reminder that when we center Black mamas and birthing people, we create space for healing, justice, and joy. Our efforts honor the resilience of our communities while demanding a healthcare system that listens, respects, and delivers the quality and dignified healthcare Black mothers deserve.”
Expanding on years of advocacy, this year’s campaign reinforces that awareness must extend beyond a single week. By placing these messages in public spaces, BWW is ensuring that conversations around Black maternal health remain visible, urgent, and impossible to ignore.
The billboards also serve as an invitation: to learn, to share, and to take action. Whether seen during a daily commute or sought out intentionally, each installation is a reminder that improving Black maternal health outcomes requires community-wide engagement and sustained commitment.
This campaign was made possible through continued partnership and support from Essential Access Health and In Our Own Voice, dedicated to advancing reproductive and maternal health equity.
