Black Women for Wellness, in partnership with Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell’s Office through the Racial Justice Learning Exchange, successfully hosted a powerful, full-day immersive birthing tour uplifting Black expecting families across LA County.
Participants explored diverse birthing environments—including Kindred Space LA, MLK Jr. Community Hospital, Mind Body Birth LA, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center—gaining firsthand insight into models of care centered on Black joy, cultural affirmation, education, safety, and empowerment. The tour created meaningful opportunities for expecting families to ask questions, build connections with birthworkers and healthcare providers, and envision affirming birth experiences that honor their needs and voices.
Grounded in community, learning, and collective care, the day reinforced our shared commitment to expanding access to culturally responsive birthing options and advancing equity in Black maternal health.
