Housing is a basic human right — not a privilege. Everyone deserves a safe and permanent place to call home, regardless of age, race, or income.

Fierce Aunties Housing Justice Flyer 1

Black women in California are disproportionately impacted by the state's housing affordability crisis, with two-thirds burdened by rent and the lowest rates of homeownership. Over their lifetimes, Black women experience eviction at three times the rate of white women, and nearly 60 percent of unhoused families are single-mother households, with Black women leading almost half of these households. And while 7 percent of California’s population identifies as Black, Black Californians represent more than a quarter of the state’s homeless population.

Listen to Black women! To address California's housing crisis, we must uplift the voices of those whose lived experiences reveal the deep racial and economic inequalities in our society. We must center those closest to the challenges and issues at hand.
