Join Black Women for Wellness on Friday, July 12, 2024, for an urgent and crucial discussion about the recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions on mifepristone, emergency care law (EMTALA), presidential immunity, and criminalizing the homeless. We’ll explore the impacts on Black women and our communities, judicial ethics, and the Court’s increasing politicization.
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court issued decisions in two major abortion cases:
- One challenging the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, a common and long-proven-safe abortion medication.
- Another pitting state abortion bans against the federal emergency care law known as EMTALA.
For now, mifepristone remains on the market, and a federal law requiring hospitals to provide stabilizing or life-saving abortions is upheld. These rulings are temporary relief, as both mifepristone and EMTALA will likely be under fire again in the future.
For this pressing Sisters@Eight, let’s use our time together to discuss and remember that the fight to build a world where our communities have true access to the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare is ongoing. Our voices will continue to be heard. We will have a say in our reproductive freedom, and we will have a bold say in November’s election.
See you Friday.
