NICKI CASTRO

Black Women for Wellness Action Project Policy Fellow

Nicki Castro is the Black Women for Wellness Action Project Policy Fellow.

Nicki works to support BWWAP mission in improving the health and well-being of Black women and girls through systematic reform. Additionally, she will be collaborating with PCOS organizations to write a policy for California that will help improve screening, treatment, and diagnose for Black women and women of color who have been diagnosed with PCOS or have yet to be diagnosed.

Prior to starting at Black Women for Wellness Action Project, Nicki has completed multiple internships that look at the impact of racist policies, such as redlining, that continue to harm low-income and marginalized communities.  She is also passionate about ways to improve social determinants of health and letting the community’s voice drive change.

Nicki holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health with a minor in Child Development from the California State University Chico, and is pursing a Master’s degree in Health Policy and Management from the University of California Los Angeles.
