MADISON BECKETT
Environmental & Beauty Justice Coordinator
Madison is a recent UCLA Sociology graduate and currently serves as Black Women for Wellness’s Environmental & Beauty Justice Coordinator. Originally from northern Connecticut, she moved to San Jose in 2020 to focus on grassroots community organizing, vaccine outreach, and small business recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Black Women for Wellness, Madison founded and leads the Beauty Justice Coalition — a collective of individuals, organizations, and activists united in the fight for the health and well-being of Black women and girls. The coalition’s mission is to address systemic inequities within the beauty industry, focusing on the harmful chemicals and toxic exposures that disproportionately affect Black communities.
In her role, Madison engages in community outreach, recruitment, and coalition-building; coordinates events and conferences; writes and coordinates content for the quarterly Beauty Justice Newsletter, and manages two of the organization’s grant programs — the Taking Stock Initiative in collaboration with Occidental College, and the Environmental Justice in Nail and Hair Salons Project in collaboration with UCLA’s Labor Occupational Safety and Health Program.
In her free time, she enjoys practicing Pilates, dance, or yoga, visiting neighborhood cafés, and taking road trips to the Bay Area to see friends. Madison can be reached at [email protected].
